Topic: Mmm...Wolfolishous!
As a sure fire way of fucking up any recently mended fences from Dubya's European tour a few weeks ago he appointed Paul Wolfowitz to be the head of the World Bank:
(News.com.au)
"PAUL Wolfowitz, nominated by the US today to head the World Bank, has been praised for his experience in international affairs but slammed for his role as a prime architect of Washington's Iraq War strategy.
Mr Wolfowitz is a former academic, a one-time ambassador to Indonesia and a leading neo-conservative."
Hmm, wow. So, where's the part of his experience that has to do with banking? Wouldn't you think that would be a requirement of getting that job? I have a job in a college in the admissions department...Why did I get the job? Well, I have experience in admissions! Before that I worked in a different capacity in education and wouldn't you know it, in college I majored in education!
So, why can't I get appointed to some six figure gig heading a major financial institution?
Since I know the education world pretty well then why shouldn't my next job be managing a huge automotive factory?
Say, I also do a lot of digital photography as a hobby and for my current employer so there is absolutley no reason why I shouldn't be head of a major telecommunications corporation, right?
perhaps, I should architect a major shift in American policy by utilizing my right-wing agenda to pre-emptively invade some Muslim country. Not for freedom, not for oil...Just because they're Muslim THEN I can get me a peachy position running Bank One!
Surely, the rest of the world must be thrilled about this appointment!
"Some believe Mr Wolfowitz's nomination may inflame global opinion and undermine a new thaw in transatlantic diplomatic relations."
Of course, it just says 'some' which we all know means either one guy or that reporter, but still...
"Mr Wolfowitz's elevation is the second contentious international appointment by Mr Bush in recent days.
Last week, Mr Bush picked John Bolton, a State Department official and long-time critic of the UN, to be the next US ambassador to world body.
Mr Wolfowitz, 61, said he believed "deeply and passionately in the mission of the World Bank", which plays a central role in the development of poor countries.
He said "the opportunity of working to lift a billion people who earn less than a dollar a day out of poverty" was an exciting responsibility and a real challenge."
Aww, he believes 'deeply and passionately' in their mission! That's all it takes people! I feel the same way the freakin' WWE so I see no reason why I shouldn't replace Vince McMahon as CEO tommorow! He is also going to end world poverty by giving everyone an additional dollar to the one they are already bringing home. Isn't that special? I love when these shills talk about the "challenge" they are happy to face.
And say, what about that John Bolton!? A great strategy indeed, ya know, I hate McDonald's! Their food is garbage, their corporate presence across the planet is offensive and disgusting so I am going to get me a job right in the top of their corporation! Somebody stop me! Anyhow, back to Wolfowitz...
Everybody LOVES Wolfowitz:
"Mr Wolfowitz is viewed with suspicion by many in Europe and around the world.
He is a central figure in the neo-conservative movement, which wants the US to impose its vision of liberal democracy and free-market economics across the world."
I just can't imagine why? Surely, I thought Wolfowitz reception would be not unlike his predictions for Iraq: Flowers and hugs and no rebellion to him what-so-ever.
What is Bush thinking?
"Former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said Mr Bush's nomination was "mystifying".
"It makes you wonder whether all the administration's words about mending fences with our allies are just lip service," he said.
Senator Kerry accused Mr Wolfowitz, one of the main architects behind the US invasion of Iraq, of "repeated and serious miscalculations about the costs and risks America would face in Iraq".
