Topic: A little late but
A little too late since the election of '04 is more or less acient history but it appears that America is starting to get a little wise to the shenanigans perpatrated by our illustrious Administration.
(CNN)
"Poll: Most in U.S. say Iraq war not worthwhile.
A majority of Americans do not believe it was worth going to war in Iraq, a national poll reported Tuesday.
Fifty-seven percent of those polled said they did not believe it was worth going to war, versus 41 percent who said it was, according to a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll of 1,006 adults.
That was a drop in support from February, when 48 percent said it was worth going to war and half said it was not.
It's also the highest percentage of respondents who have expressed those feelings and triple the percentage of Americans who said that it was not worth the cost shortly after the war began about two years ago."
Oh come on, were killing those Iraqis in the name of FREEDOM! Freedom ain't free so it's bound to get difficult.
"Asked how things are going for the United States in Iraq, 56 percent said "badly" or "very badly," up from 45 percent in March. Forty-two percent said "well" or "very well," down from 52 percent in March...
...Americans appeared evenly divided over whether the decision to send U.S. troops to Iraq was a mistake, with 49 percent saying yes and 48 percent saying no."
Hey, between all this furor over DeLay and his baf ethics, the sinking ship that is Dubya's Social Security plan, the backfire of the 'culture of life' push brought on by that whole Schiavo thing and an increase in attacks in Iraq are starting to take the toll that should have been firmly set by August of 2004. Oh well, this all bodes well for the 2006 and 2008 elections.
CNN also had this tidbit up today:
"Iraq, Afghan wars reportedly strain U.S. fighting ability
The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has issued a report to Congress that said the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan could hamstring the U.S. ability to fight other wars, a senior military official told CNN.
The chairman, Gen. Richard Myers, supplied the report, an annual document on the U.S. military's ability to carry out war plans, to the lawmakers.
In a news conference last week, President Bush said Myers told him that "we have plenty of capacity."
Bush said he asked the general, "Do you feel that we've limited our capacity to deal with other problems because of our troop levels in Iraq?
"And the answer is, no, he doesn't feel we're limited," Bush said.
White House spokesman Trent Duffy reiterated Tuesday the president's belief that the military is prepared for whatever it may face.
"We are at war, and that level of operations does have some impact on troops," Duffy said. "But the president continues to be confident, as well as his military commanders, that we can meet any threat decisively."
So, the Joint Chiefs seem to think we are not all that ready to have ourselves some more unjustified, idiotic wars...Naturally, Bush disagrees as he ain't the one that has to do any of the fighting or dying.
"The senior military official told CNN that because of the U.S. deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, the report concludes that future armed conflicts would last longer and produce higher casualties.
The report finds that the United States still would have the ability to win another military face-off but wouldn't be able to build up its forces as quickly as it did for the Iraq war.
"It would be harder to sprint that fast," the official said.
Oh, I see, we just wouldn't be able to KICK ASS fast enough and likely lose a few more soldiers than if we weren't already stuck in a couple of stupid wars that we really can't win...Even though we are somehow winning them anyhow. And say, just to show that CNN isn't an American hating liberal they also had this one up:
"Possible letter to al-Zarqawi cites low morale
The U.S. military said Tuesday it has seized a letter from Iraqi insurgents believed to be intended for Jordanian-born militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi complaining about low morale among followers and weakening support for the insurgency.
The authenticity of the letter -- which the military said American troops found Thursday in a raid in Baghdad -- could not be independently verified.
The letter -- which never refers to al-Zarqawi by name -- is written to Sheik Abu Ahmad, a name not known to be used by the militant leader or his followers. But supporters often call al-Zarqawi the Sheik or Sheik Abu Musab in letters and on Web sites.
"What has happened to myself and my brothers is an unforgivable crime, but God will punish the oppressor," the letter reads. "I swear by God that you will be asked about what happened to us because you have not asked about the situation of the migrants. Morale is down and there is fatigue among mujahedeen ranks.
"There is discrimination by some of the brethren emirs. God would not accept such actions, and a simple mistake delays victory, so what about big mistakes and gross guilts? Many underestimate them and are lenient toward them."
So, the damn thing can't be verified and was magically FOUND by troops and it was addressed to somebody other than al-Zarqawi...But they called him a Shiek so it seems like it could be real, right? What a piece of poo. For having a low morale those insurgents ahve managed quite a few bombs lately. It seems like there's been an average of 11 to 20 something deaths per day over there. Doesn't sound like were winning to me. Then what do I know? I live here in the U.S. and I can't possibly know what's really happening. Especially if I am getting my news from our media.
