Topic: Cautious Optimism?
Well, I don't know if I was succumbing to media sway or if I actually was "cautiously optimistic" when the Iraqi elections went down and Syria pulled out and came on Lebannon's tits instead of inside and Egypt had some elections as well. Was everything going to magically just get better? I had hoped so but really we all knew that is was silly to think that way. Despite CNN's little make believe article about a letter from an 'insurgent' that said they were getting tired you see this in the Washington Post:
"Iraq's wave of killing continued unabated Thursday with insurgent attacks claiming at least 22 lives.
Thursday's violence, including an ambush of an Iraqi police patrol and a deadly bomb attack, brought the toll of dead to more than 80 since Wednesday and to more than 200 in the past week."
HOLY JESUS FUCK!?!? 200 in one week?! That doesn't really jive with this notion that the insurgency is getting fatigued and demoralized now does it? Perhaps this is a desperate act of attacks trying to up the morale...Perhaps these insurgents are actually organized anbd are continuing their strategy of terrah and chaos and murder. Iraq doesn't seem to be doing any better now than a year ago.
Yes, they have a government now but they are still dicking around appointing each other to this and that and have yet to actually be able to do much of anything. meanwhile the attacks carry on and keep killing Iraqis! Particularly the ones brave enough to try and join their police force or their new national guard. Not pretty, killing their own and all but that sets a scary stage for others to think twice about joining up. Sure they are under their own rule but no matter..To the insurgents they are just signing on with the puppet government perpertrated by the good ole U.S. of fucking A!
The question remains though, despite being 'against this war' and pissed at the freaking power crazy Administration...What's to be done now? How is this shit fixed? Will our simply leaving stop this or make it worse? The Iraqi's had a rather significant protest a few weeks ago wishing the Americans to get the fuck out...Will that be enough to slow or end the insurgency...Or will it be civil war? Will there be civil war whether we are there or not?
