Topic: America's 'other' war...
I didn't see this in any place but the BBC...Even mid-election frenzy they somehow have time to notice that shit isn't sound in our other supposedly 'won' war:
(BBC)
"Afghan fighting 'leaves 70 dead'
Seventy people have been killed over the last three days in two clashes in southern Afghanistan, the Afghan and US authorities say.
Fighting in Zabul province left 40 fighters from the Taleban and its allies dead together with one Afghan policemen, the US military says.
And nine Afghan soldiers and 20 insurgents were killed in a clash in Kandahar province, the US says.
They are some of the heaviest clashes since the fall of the Taleban."
Ah, what do those Lymies know...they think we're fighting someone called the 'Taleban'...Everyone knows that we fought and defeated the Taliban! GEESH!
"The clash in Zabul province took place on Tuesday in the Deh Chopan district.
Those killed were a "mix of Taleban and anti-coalition militants", US spokesman Col James Yonts told the Associated Press news agency.
"These were well-trained, well-armed people... not just a rogue group," he said, "and they didn't flee, they stood and fought."
Initially the US said that 20 militants were killed.
But on Thursday Col James Yonts said the number of dead has risen to 40 - the highest from a single battle in nine months - after troops examining the battle scene found more bodies.
The Americans say that they used warplanes and helicopter gunships in support of their troops on the ground.
Six US servicemen and five Afghan policemen were also injured.
The clash began when gunmen fired on coalition forces investigating the beating of a local man, the US said.
Afghan Interior Minister Ali Ahmed Jalali said that the fighting started when militants attacked three local doctors and police tried to free them. He said that the trio were subsequently "freed safely".
Hmm, I wonder why no one in the American media has picked up on this?
Speaking of Britain, as I mentioned May 5th is their election day for the British Parliment...Depending on which major party wins a goverment majority it will determine if Tony Blair will keep his job or if they will get a new person as the PM. If that happens it could possibly lead to cooler relations with Dubya. If anyone saw the Daily Show's coverage fo this lastnight you know what I am saying. Their citizens actually address Blair fairly directly and use words like "liar" and "you deliberately deceived us" and the like. Their polls indicate that Blair's labour party is poised to maintain it's majority however there is definitely a public outcry against him over there.
We'll see...I felt like Kerry was going to win here in '04 so I think it looks much the same over there. Not to mention that supposedly Britain's economy is doing fine thanks to Blair's Labour party. I just want to see one of these war architects go down MAN! We'll find out hopefully tomorrow...I am not going to get my hopes up to high though.
