Topic: Dubya talks Iraq
Yes, yes, yes...Last night was a great evening filled with George W. Bush telling us all about his fantastic strategy to WIN!
I missed the actual speech when aired as I was on the train home from my meager job. Though, via highlights and replays, I was able to piece it together...
Some brief thoughts:
One, the general message that this is to be a hard fight and blah blah blah was expected. The idea that we as a nation need to focus on this and noting that "here we are" is a good one. The focus needs to come off the concept that the war was wrong, he lied, et. al. and be put on the notion that we really need to unite and continue to work towards making this better. We need to solve this current problem because 'mistakes were made' and now we need to fix them. This is very true and I agree that we have been collectively worried about Dick Durbin's apologies and Karl Rove's terrible remarks which have done little but fire up the partisan split. We need to work together (right/left) to get this hard, long slough shortened to perhaps a softer, medium-length long day?
That being said...The issue remains that all these reasons we ought not to be in the war stem from the fundamental notion that Dubya hasn't a clue as to what he is doing. He hasn't a clue about what he HAS been doing either hence we are stuck in this mess (dare I say 'quagmire?'). His notion that we are fighting "the enemy" over there as opposed to here (the 'fly-paper' theory) is ricockulous and therfore made his entire speech last night D.O.A.
Dubya simply does not understand the enemy (uh-oh, I used the word 'understand' which clearly denotes that I am an America-hating, anti-patriotic, traitor.) The 'enemy' is not a team, an army, a state supported group that is planning on "winning the terror war." Nor are they planning on piling into some boats and sailing over to invade America. They are terrorists who feel have successfully suckered us into an unwinnable situation where they can tax us and drain us just like a certain other former superpower in the 1980's.
This stupid idea that someday we think 'they' are going to run out of terrorists, or give up to our supreme military supiority is pure crazy talk. We will never win this "war." Just like we will never win the drug war. I am not saying this because I hate my country, don't support the troops or just finished shitting on my burning flag. The more Iraqis die, the more fighting we do the more terrorists there will be. They don't hate our fucking freedom they hate US and they want us the fuck out of the Middle East, PERIOD!!!
Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and had none of the terrorism it enjoys today. What right do we have to show up and execute this supposed fly-paper strategy? Not that THAT question matters as we all know we went to Iraq for very different reasons than the ones we are saying today...I am just trying to benefit doubts here.
We cannot set a timetable because we don't want to have the "enemy" wait us out before they take over the country and "win." By the way, the "enemy" has a clearly stated goal which is to get the U.S. the hell out. Period. Naturally, we won't simply leave afterall we have already built permanent bases in the Green zone! We can't just go away now can we?! Not to mention all those fine American companies that build tanks, helicopters and missles and such...We can't just sell them out can we? Or Halliburton and all their contracts over there? How can we just let all of that go?
And say...What about our next illegal war in the Middle East? Huh? Do you really think that they have NO long-term plans in this administration? Just because they believed their own hype regarding our reception as mighty liberators and never bothered to have a back up plan doesn't mean that they haven't taken their eye off the 'axis of evil' ball. We need to get this shit in Iraq quelled long enough so we can spill our fly-paper fun into Iran. Then it will all move over there assuming we can get our new Iraqi friends large and in charge of their own shit.
By that time Syria will have gotten in line on their own or THEN they too shall share the joys of an American liberation. Some people have thought Syria would be next as they are the next lowest fruit hanging low on the tree but really that would be a walk in the park compared to the real potatoes in Iran. Afterall, they just elected a hardliner and they always have been pissed off at us, and Jews forever anyways. Pull out a map and you'll note that we are currently occupying two countries that sure make it seem convienent to roll on into Iran from two sides...
Intercontinental Double Penetration!!!
When we eventually topple Tehran, after tremendous loss, Bush will be able to again land on an air carrier and declare VICTORY for all the history books! Yes! All of this and more if we can just defeat the insurgents in Iraq and successfully continue to pretend that no one is fighting in Afghanistan. THEN there will be no more terrorism and the world will rejoice and be free*!
