Five Days Before the "happy" Holiday...
Topic: And Gov't goes WILD!
Yes indeedy doo! I don't know if anyone else has been enjoying the Dubya Stand-Up specials lately. Man, I love that after five years in office, only now do they try this "Lets be honest" strategy. After all this mess, three years of shitty war in Iraq, four years of pseudo-occupation/shitty war in Afghanistan, Plamegate, the 2004 personal/political destruction of Sen, John Kerry, that nine something or other, and now the NSA illegal spying shite...Dubya nad his Rovians are suddenly "claiming responsibility" and "acknowledgeing that they may have miscaluculated" when it comes to Iraq.

It's been too funny (in a sad and the world's ending kind of way) to see them attempt to face the music without actually saying or doing anything different. Will Bush suddenly reverse course and quit fucking the world? No, he is just going to ask you not to look at his thrusting cock.

Yesterday's press conference was absolutely killer. To watch Dubya get all mad when the reporter people actually ask questions that, to him, sound disrespectful. One great moment (of many) was:

PETER BAKER (Was. Post) Thank you, Mr. President. I wonder if you can tell us today, sir, what, if any, limits you believe there are or should be on the powers of a President during a war, at wartime? And if the global war on terror is going to last for decades, as has been forecast, does that mean that we're going to see, therefore, a more or less permanent expansion of the unchecked power of the executive in American society?

THE PRESIDENT: First of all, I disagree with your assertion of "unchecked power."
(NOTE--The way he stiffened up when he said this, he was PISSED! It was FUNNY!)

Q Well --

THE PRESIDENT: Hold on a second, please. There is the check of people being sworn to uphold the law, for starters. There is oversight. We're talking to Congress all the time, and on this program, to suggest there's unchecked power is not listening to what I'm telling you. I'm telling you, we have briefed the United States Congress on this program a dozen times.

This is an awesome responsibility to make decisions on behalf of the American people, and I understand that, Peter. And we'll continue to work with the Congress, as well as people within our own administration, to constantly monitor programs such as the one I described to you, to make sure that we're protecting the civil liberties of the United States. To say "unchecked power" basically is ascribing some kind of dictatorial position to the President, which I strongly reject.

So, not only is Bush violating the Constitution, he's admitting it in cold, stark terms!? Could this be the straw...?

More later...
