Topic: Lookit my Purple finger!
I mentioned it briefly in the last post...
Those waving purple fingers really pissed me off. It reminded me of the flip-flops being held up during the Republican Convetnion or the stupid band-aids with purple hearts on them all those dolts wore then as well. I respect the Republican's little team spirit activities as they are organized well but it pisses me off that world events and death and destruction and reputation can be so easily belittled by some high school pep rally tactics. Insulting and degrading and downright fucking stupid.
Anyways, Digby is the first I have found to find some proof of the spin involved in Iraq's little election that could. Now, I had offered some cautious optimism at the turnout previously though I noted that the only fols telling me that, "This is great!" Were the usual suspects. Here is some of what is to come regarding the spin of the purple finger success (by way of Digby and 'Editor and Publisher'):
I'll be delighted if the turnout figure, when it is officially announced, exceeds the dubious numbers already enshrined by much of the media. But don't be surprised if it falls a bit short. The point is: Nobody knows, and reporters and pundits should stop acting like they do know when they say, flatly, that 8 million Iraqis voted and that this represents a turnout rate of about 60%.
Carl Bialik, who writes the Numbers Guy column for Wall Street Journal Online, calls this "a great question ... how the journalists can know these numbers -- when so many of them aren't able to venture out all over that country." Speaking to E&P on Wednesday, Howard Kurtz of The Washington Post -- one of the few mainstream journalists to raise questions about the turnout percentage -- referred to the "fuzzy math" at the heart of it.
This, naturally, comes as no surprise really. Just dashed some hope...I guess...Just more lies on top of lies about past lies. I am so tired of lies. I am already looking forward to the fact check report on the State of the Union. Especially where the social security crisis is concerned...
