Topic: Mmm...Connnndiiii...
As I recall, when Dubya and Co. first got in the White House there were a few questions of certain cabinet members about Iraq. I believe Powell said something along the lines that Iraq was not an imminent threat. Perhaps Condi Rice had said something about Iraq not being on their agenda as a presence that mattered..Or something to that effect?
I could be wrong as it turns out I have special abilities to remember past 9/11...Hell, these days one is magical if they remember the lead up to our current fight to liberate the downtrodden people of Iraq. It seems like last year Iraq was part of the war on terror. Then, it's hazy, but I thought the Iraq invasion was some kind of unprecedented, pre-emptive invasion to disarm Saddam Hussein from all those Weapons of Mass Destruction (I am as tired of this phrase as I am of Dubya's name) and also to remove Hussein from power. Remember that?
It's ok if you don't, you are not supposed to...Now dip your finger in ink and wave it in the face of the nearest "liberal" or "Democrat" and tell them they were wrong...Iraq, pending some minor adjustment to circumstance resulting from the catastrophic success, is nothing short of a victory! A victory for Freedom and liberty and blah blah blah blah...
At any rate, this whole post was inspired by a familiar statement I noted in the Trib this morning...There has been some talking point buzz floating around here and there in the blogoverse and more so in the yapping punditry of TV news lately about Iran. SO, Condi has taken it upon herself to let fly the first Iran lie of 2005!
BEHOLD:
"Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Friday a U.S. attack on Iran "is simply not on the agenda at this point," despite the United States' continued criticism of Iran's human rights record and suspected nuclear weapons ambitions.
Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage has expressly said that regime change in Iran is not the U.S. goal. But Rice would not say whether the United States supports a change of government.
Speaking to reporters on the plane as she began her weeklong trip, Rice said Iran's approach to human rights and its treatment of its own citizens were loathsome.
"I don't think anybody thinks that the unelected mullahs who run that regime are a good thing for the Iranian people and for the region," she said Thursday. On Friday, she referred to Iran's leaders as "an unelected few."
Not on the agenda...AT THIS POINT!?! Doth thou mean it's on the agenda at some point in the future? She went on and made some nasty statements about their leaders for not being on the agenda...How much BULLSHIT IS THIS!?!?
This is why I think America needs to do it's sloggin best to slow down, obfuscate and distract the administration with their own social security crisis so that we may be able to fuck everything up enough to prevent these hawkish jagoffs from dropping the guantlet again into Iran (or Syria). We just cannot afford more wars...We can't do it.
It could be our undoing...
