No sooner than I can sit down and allow the notion of President Rice settle in then the super-star makes some news right off:
(Washington Post)
BRUSSELS, Feb. 9 -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Wednesday that Iran must live up to international obligations aimed at curbing the spread of nuclear weapons "or next steps are in the offing."
Uhhhhh...What was that?
"I believe that everyone is telling the Iranians that they're going to have to live up to their international obligations, or next steps are in the offing," Rice said in response to a question on whether the Europeans have delivered the nonproliferation message strongly enough.
Next steps are in the offing? I'm sorry, I just don't understand what that is supposed to mean. She then said, "And I think everyone understands what next steps mean." Well...I suppose that must mean INVASION!!!
GET IN THERE AND KILL 'EM!!! KILL 'EM ALLLL!!!!!
Oops, jumped the gun...What I meant to say was...
'She added that under International Atomic Energy Agency statutes, Iran "has to be referred to the U.N. Security Council" if it does not meet its obligations.'
She blathers on a bit about how the Iranians need to listen to the Europeans and fuflill these nuclear obligations and blah blah blah. Notice how the U.S. isn't directly involved at all with these talks? Sure, Condi talks tough while she is on this international tour of lookit how strong we are but she is not speaking to any Iranians directly. Depsite the fact that a majority of our military is currently located on either side of Iran we just don't have the time or interest to even sit down and chat with them.
Just like Bush never sat down and talked with Saddam (though that evil, liberal nutcase Dan Rather did). What is with that, man? We can kill thousands of their people, take over their country (more or less) but we can't be bothered with simple diplomacy as it might be read as weak by "someone else?" lame.
'Asked how long diplomacy should continue before stronger measures are taken, Rice said the Bush administration has "set no deadline, no timeline," adding, "The Iranians know what they need to do." She said they should not be permitted to build a nuclear weapon "under cover of civilian nuclear power" and that the United States is in "very close consultation" with the Europeans on the issue.'
Yeah, we're paying attention but it's up to Europe and the U.N. to get shit right? I thought we said they made themselves an insiginificant organization because they wouldn't play along with our last bullshit invasion? Oh, I get it...Get the U.N. to throw on soem sanctions that Iran will promptly violate thus giving us just cause to start the drumbeat loud and clear...Start talking about Iran's WMD, their terrible and evil leadership and how if we don't act RIGHT NOW (that is, right when the sanctions are in place and sufficiently violated) our Iranian smoking gun will be...You guessed it...
A Mushroom Cloud!
But no worries folks, there is no deadline or timeline and as she said before...It is somehow not on the agenda. pretty neat, Iran isn't on the agenda at this point but there sure has been a lot of press about it...
'Rice said Tehran needs to hear that the current deliberations are not simply "a kind of way station" where Iran continues its activities. Although there is still time for diplomacy, she said, the Iranians need to hear that "there's going to be an end to this and that they're going to end up in the Security Council."
Dum-dum-DUMMMMMM!!
OH NO!!! Not the SECURITY COUNCIL! I am sure the Iranians are just SO SCARED!
